Hear what I have to say about Selena and her ankle weights...
One thing; she does make them look pretty cool, but they aren't for everyone.
Have a read of body & souls article!
"According to Sydney-based PT Lia Jones, there are both pros and cons to adopting the celeb’s workout hack.
While wearing weights will obviously elevate your heart rate and help you burn more calories, Lia also says it’s a clever way for those with low bone density.
“Due to the weight of the ankle weights whilst walking, it improves bone density, so it’s good for osteoporosis.”
However, she also warns ankle weights aren’t for everyone.
“If you have any muscle imbalances or poor biomechanics, the weight of the ankle weights could cause more imbalances, increasing more injury.
“Ankle weights don’t always build muscle on the legs evenly and can cause stress on the joints if certain muscles aren’t activated enough.”
Bottom line, “they’re good for people in good shape, but people who are frail, unconditioned, or overweight, will increase their risk of injury or cause imbalances.”
Hmm, smart idea Selena, but we think we’ll leave our weights for the gym.
